NORWALK, Calif. - A woman who was brutally beaten by an armed home invader who then kidnapped her son is beginning the long road to recovery.The break-in occurred on Aug. 2 at the home of Maria Romero in Norwalk, located near Studebaker Road and Alondra Boulevard. The armed man used a hammer he found in the home’s yard to smash a sliding glass door and proceeded to beat Romero with the same tool. The former LAUSD teacher suffered a fractured skull and several facial bones, a broken wrist and finger and damage to her eye socket. “I’ve had reconstructive surgery twice. Two Men Died after a Tire Struck a Van WindowLAKEWOOD, WA (September 28, 2023) – Early Thursday morning, two people died after a tire struck a van on Interstate 5.The incident happened on September 21st, just after 5:30 a.m., on Interstate 5 near Bridgeport Way Southwest.According to reports, a tire that was being hauled on a truck came loose and flew down the road. OAKLAND — The body of a 72-year-old woman killed in a hit-and-run collision in East Oakland more than 24 hours earlier was discovered Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.She was identified by the coroner’s office Thursday as Mara Delaney of Santa Rosa.Police said they were told she had been visiting friends in the area and was walking to a bus stop when she was hit.She was found dead about 1:07 p.m. Wednesday against a fence in the 3600 block of Seminary Avenue by some maintenance workers, police said. Police said there were apparent skid marks that led from the southbound lanes of Seminary to the area where the woman was found.In the course of their investigation, police recovered video surveillance that showed the woman was possibly hit by a white Ford 150 pickup truck between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. Tuesday. (KRON) -- A severe traffic alert was reported Thursday morning on eastbound CA-84 east of the Dumbarton Bridge in Fremont due to two separate traffic collisions, one with major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. All eastbound lanes were reopened at 9:52 a.m. after a full closure lasted for hours.One vehicle overturned in a collision, CHP Hayward said. All eastbound lanes of the Dumbarton Bridge were blocked at 6:17 a.m. before reopening at 9:52 a.m. Thursday morning.CHP Hayward reported that "major injuries" were sustained in one of the crashes.
