House Freedom Caucus voted to remove Greene before July Fourth break, congressman says (CNN) — A majority of the House Freedom Caucus voted to remove GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia just before the current congressional recess on June 23, according to Republican Rep. Andy Harris of Maryland, though her ultimate fate in the group remains unclear.“A vote was taken to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Freedom Caucus – for some of the things she’s done,” Harris told reporters Thursday. According to Harris, Greene can no longer attend weekly meetings as they are reserved for members. This would be the first time a member has been ejected from the caucus. Politico first reported the vote.It is unclear if the process is officially complete as members are still out of town and the rules for kicking out a member of the Freedom Caucus are tightly held. CNN has reached out to the caucus for comment.“As far as I know, that’s the way it is,” Harris said when asked if Greene is officially out after the vote occurred.Greene did not address her me...

Gunnar Henderson leads Orioles to 14-1 drubbing of Yankees with 4 hits, 2 homers in first 4 innings

Gunnar Henderson leads Orioles to 14-1 drubbing of Yankees with 4 hits, 2 homers in first 4 innings When Gunnar Henderson lofted the seventh pitch of Thursday night’s game at Yankee Stadium out to left field, it provided a bit of early offense the Orioles had lacked of late. But there was much, much more to come.Paced by three more hits and another home run by Henderson, the Orioles beat the New York Yankees, 14-1, with all but one of Baltimore’s runs coming in the first four innings. Henderson recorded a hit in each of those frames, becoming only the second major leaguer since 1984 with four hits and two home runs through four innings.A week past his 22nd birthday, Henderson became the second youngest Oriole to achieve that feat in a whole game, only nine days older than Curt Blefary was in 1965. Since, only eight major leaguers younger than Henderson have posted such a stat line: Joe Morgan, Rubén Sierra, Miguel Cabrera, Justin Upton, Jason Heyward, Carlos Correa, Juan Soto and Rafael Devers.Entering the season as baseball’s top prospect and a favorite to ...

Luis Severino lit up again as Orioles obliterate Yankees to split 4-game set

Luis Severino lit up again as Orioles obliterate Yankees to split 4-game set The Yankees have a serious problem, and his name is Luis Severino. The starter stumbled and then some again on Thursday as the second-place Orioles beat the third-place Yankees, 14-1, in the Bronx. The Yankees had a chance to win their four-game series against their division rivals after taking the first two games, but a Wednesday loss and Severino’s continued struggles resulted in a split.Severino put himself and his team in an immediate hole, as Gunnar Henderson led off with a home run. The Yankees’ righty didn’t allow any more runs in the first or second innings, but a Baltimore bombardment knocked Severino out before could finish the third frame. While a would-be strike-three call and some defensive mishaps — particularly from Isiah Kiner-Falefa in left field — worked against Severino, there was no excusing the hurler’s performance. Severino totaled just eight outs while giving up seven earned runs and 11 hard-hit balls. He only walked one and s...

Mets’ slumping slugger Pete Alonso heads to 3rd-career All-Star game

Mets’ slumping slugger Pete Alonso heads to 3rd-career All-Star game PHOENIX — Pete Alonso knows the numbers: His expected batting average is .264 and his current average is .217.“I’ve looked at my expected batting average and based on the numbers, the discrepancy is probably one of the largest in all of Major League Baseball,” Alonso told the Daily News on Wednesday at Chase Field. “I think it’s in the .260s and that’s kind of on par with who I’ve been in the past, but this year it’s not that. Now I’m hitting in the high .210s, but that’s like a 50-point discrepancy and that’s got to be the largest margin in the big leagues. That’s tough.”Coming into Wednesday, his math wasn’t far off. It’s a 47-point discrepancy. Alonso made the All-Star team largely based on his 25 home runs, which currently rank third in the league, tied with Luis Robert of the Chicago White Sox. Earlier this season, Alonso emerged as an NL MVP candidate, but this recent skid has coole...

Red Sox rally late to spoil Nathan Eovaldi’s Fenway return, beat Rangers 10-6

Red Sox rally late to spoil Nathan Eovaldi’s Fenway return, beat Rangers 10-6 Nathan Eovaldi is having a spectacular season. The former Red Sox right-hander has emerged as a Cy Young contender since joining the Texas Rangers, and while he wasn’t at his best Thursday night, he still walked off the mound with a 5-3 lead in the sixth inning, earning a polite applause from the Fenway Faithful as he exited. Then, with their former teammate out of the picture, the Red Sox offense feasted.Boston scored seven straight runs from the sixth inning onwards and delivered the knockout blow in the form of a six-run avalanche in the bottom of the seventh. Kiké Hernández came through with the go-ahead two-run single and from there Boston kept pouring it on in what wound up a decisive 10-6 win.The comeback began after Boston cut the deficit to 5-4 in the sixth on an RBI single by pinch hitter Rob Refsnyder to score Hernández, who reached on a fielder’s choice and an error on Eovaldi’s last at bat. Then in the seventh Boston loaded the bases with one out on a R...

Mets Notebook: Tommy Pham tearing the cover off the ball

Mets Notebook: Tommy Pham tearing the cover off the ball PHOENIX — The Mets might have signed Tommy Pham as a platoon option, but halfway through the season, he’s hitting the ball so hard and so well that the team can hardly afford to take him out of the lineup.Since May 28, Pham has been hitting .355 with a 1.057 OPS, the third-best OPS in the Major Leagues over that span. Since May 18, he’s gone 12-for-25 with runners in scoring position. He hit six home runs last month. His rise coincided with the Mets’ slide, but Pham has been the one constant in the Mets’ lineup over the last month.“His swing decisions are good and his swing is really good,” said hitting coach Jeremy Barnes. “He can get disconnected at times and just kind of get forward. When he doesn’t do that, he hits the ball harder than anybody in the league.”Barnes isn’t wrong.Pham is getting the ball in the air and hitting it hard. His average exit velocity is in the 95th percentile, his expected batting average ...
