Dine LA Restaurant Week is back and celebrating a big milestone, its 15th anniversary. The event is a great way to experience the dining scene of Los Angeles. "We are so excited to celebrate our 15th anniversary this year for Dine LA," Stacey Sun, executive director of Dine LA, told KTLA 5 News' Lu Parker. "We have over 370 participating restaurants across 66 neighborhoods in L.A."Rossoblu, All Day Baby's Dinner concept, Spoon and Pork, and Chimmelier showed off their Restaurant Week specials for the staff at KTLA. Lunches and dinners start at $15 and can go up to $65.Dine LA Restaurant Week starts on April 28 and lasts until May 12, and it includes weekends. No tickets or passes are required. Los Angeles Police Department detectives have arrested the woman accused of fatally hitting a man in Sylmar last Friday. Mary Inez Mercado, 21, of Granada Hills was arrested and booked on a felony charge of hit and run causing death, according to LAPD. She was being held on $50,000 bail. Mercado is accused of striking a pedestrian who was pushing a shopping cart while traveling westbound on Hubbard Street west of Adelphia Avenue on April 21 around 12:50 a.m. Police release surveillance video in fatal Highland Park hit-and-run Mercado’s sedan continued westbound on Hubbard until Dronfield Avenue, where she momentarily exited the vehicle but re-entered shortly after and drove away, police said. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported the man to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Hit-and-Run Driver At Large Following Wrong-Way Crash near Old Olive HighwayOROVILLE, CA (April 28, 2023) – Monday evening, an unidentified person sustained injuries after a head-on crash at Forbestown Road.The accident occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. along Forbestown Road and Old Olive Highway.According to the CHP, a driver in a 2005 Saturn Ion was driving west on Forbestown Road at high speeds when it crossed the double yellow lines and collided head-on with a white 1990 Dodge truck driving east across the same road.The Dodge overturned and landed on its roof on the south shoulder as a result of the impact.Responding emergency crews then extricated the Dodge driver and transported them to a nearby hospital with major injuries. Amtrak Train Collision near Railroad Avenue Left One Dead and Several InjuredFAIRFIELD, CA (April 28, 2023) – Wednesday morning, an Amtrak train crash on East Tabor Avenue left one dead and several others injured.The incident happened near the intersection of East Tabor Avenue and Railroad Avenue.According to the report, an Amtrak train traveling eastbound hit a truck near the intersection. The impact of the collision caused the truck to careen into another vehicle.The driver of the truck sustained serious injuries and died as result of the crash.Additionally, responding emergency personnel transported several people to a hospital for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.Reports said the train had approximately 120 individuals on board, including both passengers and crew members. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- One person was rescued and treated for minor injuries after an explosion at a residential property in San Francisco Friday morning, the San Francisco Fire Department tweeted. Authorities say the explosion was possibly related to a propane home appliance. SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KRON) -- A 24-year-old San Jose man was found shot to death in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Highway 9, and two people were arrested on homicide charges. Oliver Waterfall's body was found on the evening of April 11 in a heavily wooded area with steep terrain. Santa Cruz County Sheriff's detectives classified the case as "suspicious." A coroner's autopsy determined that Waterfall died from a gunshot wound. Detectives spent two weeks conducting interviews and reviewing surveillance footage. On Wednesday, a young woman and man were arrested on suspicion of murdering Waterfall: 22-year-old Diana Ornelas of Santa Clara and 27-year-old Dennis Novoa of San Jose. "The motive of the homicide is believed to be of a personal nature," the Sheriff's Office wrote. In February, Waterfall tagged Novoa in a photograph of a marijuana plant and wrote, "Shoutout to the homie Dennis Novoa for teaching me how to grow. Mush love."
